Then maybe my writing is not pleasing to all readers of my blog, please send comments to me.

0 Mesothelioma Facts

Mesothelioma (pronounced "mez-o-theel-e-oh-ma") is a cancer of the mesothelium, the protective membrane lining many vital organs, including the lungs, heart and abdomen. This membrane produces a lubricating fluid that allows organs to smoothly glide over each other as they perform their functions (e.g. breathing, beating of the heart, etc.). What are the facts surrounding the disease? Here are the top ten things you need to know about the disease.

* Mesothelioma affects many vital organs

Depending on the location of the cancer, mesothelioma has three types: peritoneal mesothelioma, pleural mesothelioma and pericardial mesothelioma. Peritoneal mesothelioma affects the lining of the abdomen; pleural mesothelioma affects the lining of the lungs; pericardial mesothelioma affects the lining of the chest cavity.

A rarer type, testicular mesothelioma, affects the mesothelium of the male reproductive organ (called tunical vaginalis testis) and the mesothelium of the female reproductive organ (tunica seros uteri).

* Mesothelioma is a rare type of cancer

There are approximately 2,000 to 3,000 new cases of mesothelioma (about 14 people in every million) in the United States each year or just more than 10,000 worldwide.

* 90% of mesothelioma cases are caused by exposure to asbestos

It is estimated that more than 8 million people were exposed to asbestos fibers in the last 50 years. Previous exposure to asbestos fibers is the only known cause of mesothelioma. Asbestos is a mineral fiber used in a wide range of products and applications and in many industries particularly in the late 19th century until the 1970s.

Asbestos fibers enter the body when breathed in or ingested. When they get stuck inside an organ, they irritate the tissues over time and cause normal cells to mutate into cancer cells. Anybody exposed to asbestos has a 7 to 10% lifetime risk of developing mesothelioma, and many of those diagnosed with the disease contracted the disease on the job.

The causes of 10% of mesothelioma cases are indeterminable. Some theories suggest that victims may have contracted the disease by exposure to zeolite (a chemical) or by radiation from x-rays that contain the chemical thorium dioxide.

* Mesothelioma affects more men than women

Since more men were involved in asbestos product plants, mines, shipbuilding facilities and railroad construction, statistics show that there are more males diagnosed with mesothelioma than females. Mesothelioma is five times more common in men than in women. It is also 75% more common in men aged 60 to 72 than in men aged 55 and below.

* Diagnosing mesothelioma is difficult

Mesothelioma symptoms are non-specific, meaning the characteristics of the symptoms are similar to some other diseases. As such, they are often overlooked. Mesothelioma symptoms include pleuritic pain, fever, weight loss and nausea. During consultation, patients should discuss their medical and personal/occupational history with their physician for a more accurate diagnosis of their disease.

* Mesothelioma has long latency period

From exposure to asbestos fibers, the cancer takes 15 to 50 years to develop. This means that a person who was exposed to asbestos fibers as long as 50 years ago may develop mesothelioma today.

* Mesothelioma is deadly

Benign cases of mesothelioma are extremely rare. Symptoms of the disease do not show up until it reaches its terminally advanced stage. By then, the disease is beyond cure. The average survival rate of mesothelioma victims from diagnosis is less than a year. Therapy options for mesothelioma include surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

0 Mesothelioma Misconceptions and Myths

Asbestos exposure is the primary risk factor for contracting mesothelioma, and workers handling asbestos fibers are at the greatest risk for mesothelioma.

There are many misconceptions and myths surrounding the diagnosis of mesothelioma. One of the misconceptions is that mesothelioma is lung cancer. Mesothelioma that originates in the pleural lining of the lung has similar symptoms but is not true lung cancer. Treatments can vary greatly between lung cancer and mesothelioma of the pleural lining of the lung.

Mesothelioma Myths

A mesothelioma myth is that only asbestos workers develop mesothelioma. While the overwhelming majority of mesothelioma cases are attributable to asbestos exposure, other cases of people not exposed to asbestos do exist. Families exposed to the clothing and shoes brought home by workers have contracted mesothelioma.

Another misconception is that a small amount of exposure is not harmful. No amount of exposure to asbestos is safe. The smallest particle of asbestos fiber lodged in the pleural lining can result in mesothelioma. The misconception that there is no hope for mesothelioma victims is perhaps the most troubling. Doctors and researchers are working every day towards finding a cure and eradicating this disease.

Mesothelioma is, in fact, a rare form of cancer that occurs in the mesothelium, a thin layer of tissue that covers almost all of the internal organs of the human body.

• Pleural mesothelioma affects tissue surrounding the lungs

• Peritoneal mesothelioma affects the tissue surrounding the abdomen

• Pericardial mesothelioma affects tissue surrounding the heart

• Mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis occurs in the lining of the testicles

Two to three thousand people are diagnosed each year with mesothelioma. Pleural mesothelioma is the most common form seen in this disease.

Warning Signs of the Disease

Mesothelioma is difficult to diagnose due to the subtle changes affecting the body in the early stages of the disease. The symptoms of mesothelioma are often ignored and attributed to common everyday ailments. People with pleural mesothelioma experience lower back pain or side chest pain and shortness of breath. They may also have difficulty swallowing, a persistent cough, fever, weight loss and show signs of fatigue. Peritoneal mesothelioma symptoms include abdominal pain, weight loss, nausea and vomiting. Pericardial mesothelioma symptoms include trouble breathing, shortness of breath and chest pain. Mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis may present as a mass on one or both testicles.

0 Everything You Should Know About Mesothelioma Settlements

Here are some important things you should know about mesothelioma settlements.

Mesothelioma is a deadly cancer that affects people who have been exposed to asbestos. This slow forming cancer is not just a frightening and often fatal disease; it is also a financially draining disease. The medical expenses that may or may not be covered by medical insurance, the loss of income when a patient can't work, and even compensation for pain and suffering have become grounds for a mesothelioma claim. Many claims become Mesothelioma settlements rather than ever going to court.

Mesothelioma Claims

Mesothelioma patients and their families are making claims and collecting Mesothelioma settlements from the employers, asbestos producing companies and any other entity that could be found responsible for the patient's exposure to asbestos. Mesothelioma often doesn't develop until 40 or more years after exposure, so it can seem as if filing a claim for something that happened so long ago would be useless. It's not; there are manufacturers of asbestos and large companies that answer for these mistakes that were made so long ago. They can't take back the exposure, or heal the cancer, but they can compensate the victims.

Filing a mesothelioma claim is generally for the purpose of recovering damages incurred from contracting the disease. This includes medical expenses, loss of income, and pain and suffering. This is considered a personal injury claim that is filed by the patient, either individually or through a mesothelioma attorney. Another claim is one made by the family after a victim has passed away this is called a wrongful death claim.

Hire a Mesothelioma Lawyer

A mesothelioma lawyer is prepared to assist mesothelioma victims in submitting a claim and even following through with litigation against the company or companies responsible for the asbestos exposure that caused the mesothelioma. Attempting to file a mesothelioma claim without seeking legal advice is not advised. Mesothelioma lawyers know the process and what to claim, including the items listed above as well as other expenses.

Mesothelioma attorneys Waters & Kraus are responsible for taking more mesothelioma and asbestos claims to trial than any other firm in the country. Attorneys who specialize in mesothelioma and asbestos related claims are needed in order to avoid becoming intimidated or settling for less than you are entitled to just to avoid the hassles of a trial.

Mesothelioma attorneys make sure that the patient and the family gets everything they are entitled to and don't jump at a settlement offer because they know the true cost this disease has wrung from the victim. They are willing to stand their ground and take the claim to trial if need be in order to make sure that their client is awarded what they deserve.

Mesothelioma Settlement Offers

Many times the company or companies will want to avoid both the expense and hassle of a court battle and will offer a settlement to the mesothelioma patient through the attorney. Mesothelioma settlements, if accepted may be quite large and are often paid in monthly or quarterly installments, however settlements rarely actually cover all the costs included in a claim. Patients and families need to be aware that court cases are expensive as are special attorneys and all of those costs will have to be deducted from the settlement or judgment.

0 Mesothelioma Cancer Resources

We have collected all the info you'll have to obtain a deeper understanding of mesothelioma and asbestos-related diseases. mesosymptoms.jjrocha.com  explores the symptoms and types of mesothelioma and offers resources to help you find physicians and hospitals that specialize in the therapy of this illness.

Mesothelioma Diagnosis

A range of methods and technologies might be used to diagnose malignant mesothelioma. The intense nature from the illness demands an early diagnosis to maximize therapy choices, but its unique behavior pattern and relative rarity amongst the general population frequently functions towards such early identification. In its earliest stages, mesothelioma typically presents in non-specific ways and is often misdiagnosed because of this non-specific presentation. The vast majority of patients only obtain a diagnosis following the illness has progressed to Stage III or Stage IV. Because of this tragic situation, improvements in our capability to definitively figure out a diagnosis are amongst probably the most important goals in modern mesothelioma research and a big quantity of studies are actively investigating novel diagnostic techniques.

Mesothelioma Prognosis

The overall prognosis for individuals with mesothelioma isn't very great. The illness has among the lowest 5 year survivability rates among different cancers and remains extraordinarily difficult to deal with. While research is ongoing and our knowledge from the illness is certainly increasing quicker than it actually has, physicians know an real cure is still years away. Nevertheless, big variabilities exist in numerous mesothelioma patients and there are individuals who've lived full lives following their diagnoses.

Mesothelioma Prognosis: Statistics

When mesothelioma is examined in purely statistical terms, the prognosis figures are discouraging. Pleural mesothelioma usually presents in an sophisticated stage of progression having a ten-to-fourteen month lifespan expectation from diagnosis. Peritoneal mesothelioma frequently provides having a slightly more optimistic lifespan expectation and patients surviving two to five years are not rare. Nevertheless, following 5 years, statistics display survivability dropping to nicely below thirty percent.

Statistics, nevertheless, do not inform the entire story. There are a range of elements within the development of the patient's mesothelioma prognosis and subtle differences among these elements can possess a dramatic impact on the course the illness will take. The statistical models utilized in mesothelioma often miss the extraordinary differences in between a person's stated prognosis/diagnosis and the way by which the illness really impacts his or her existence. While uncommon, it isn't unknown for an individual to reside for ten or sometimes even twenty many years following a diagnosis of mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma Cure

Mesothelioma is really a serious and uncommon cancer that occurs in individuals exposed to asbestos. Mesothelioma victims have either inhaled or swallowed asbestos fibers which then travel through the lung and turn out to be lodged within the pleura, the thin, saran wrap-type membrane lining the lungs. Mesothelioma can also develop in the abdominal (peritoneal) region from the entire body.

Mesothelioma is really a uncommon disease within the common population, with in between two thousand and 3 thousand new diagnoses each and every 12 months. Nevertheless, it isn't rare amongst the workers in certain trades or industries and their families. Malignant mesothelioma affects males much more frequently than ladies using the typical age at diagnosis being 60 many years. Symptoms of mesothelioma might not appear for 30-50 many years after exposure to asbestos.

Mesothelioma is a highly intense cancer, resistant to many present cancer treatments. Simply because mesothelioma is really a uncommon cancer too, the healthcare community has had trouble comparing the worth of the different treatments. A problem with treating mesothelioma is that the tumor spreads along surfaces, nerves and blood vessels. This can make it difficult for treatment to rid the patient of all of the illness. Sufferers are often referred to specialists who work with them and their doctors to figure out the very best treatment.

There is no recognized cure for mesothelioma. However, with an early diagnosis and suitable care, the patient might get some relief from their symptoms. Palliative therapy is obtainable through surgical treatment, radiation and chemotherapy. Because diagnosis of mesothelioma is frequently created once the illness is too sophisticated for surgical treatment, a combination of chemotherapy and radiation are often utilized to improve survival time.

0 Mesothelioma Treatment Options for Malignant Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma treatment options for malignant mesothelioma can relieve pain and provide hope for the future. In many cases, new mesothelioma treatment options can increase mesothelioma life expectancy beyond original expectations. Even if advanced malignant mesothelioma has reached a seemingly incurable stage, participating in clinical trials gives a breath of hope to the future generations of mesothelioma cancer patients.

Treatment for malignant mesothelioma can start with surgery, although this is not always recommended in mesothelioma treatment options since older patients may have a difficult time with surgery. The objective is to remove the tumor, or at least most of it, and slow down the disease. With advanced mesothelioma, the tumor has often tragically spread throughout the body and has invaded life-giving organs, making surgery more risky than living with cancer itself. However in the early stages of malignant mesothelioma, a localized tumor is more likely to be successfully removed.

Radical surgery is a mesothelioma treatment option for advanced malignant mesothelioma that has been used in small clinical trials, but has resulted in almost half the patients (48%) living at least five years past their predetermined mesothelioma life expectancy date. "Extrapleural pneumonectomy" involves removing the internal body parts that mesothelioma cancer cells love to invade. Surgery removes the parietal pleura (pleural mesothelioma), the pericardium (pericardial mesothelioma) and the diaphragm, as well as the removal of a lung. This surgery is combined with pre and post operative chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Cancer Research UK is funding a "MARS" clinical trial (mesothelioma and radical surgery) to formally undergo pilot testing. Since the patients must be followed for five years, the results are not yet available and the success of these mesothelioma treatment options has yet to be discovered. UK medical reports do claim that US trial results have thus far demonstrated that a heavier dose of radiotherapy after the EPP surgery extends mesothelioma life expectancy.

Mesothelioma treatment options almost always include chemotherapy. Progress is seen in mesothelioma treatment when chemotherapy is combined with drug therapy. There are clinical trials for mesothelioma treatment options around the world that are seeking to find the chemotherapy and drug mix that can prolong mesothelioma life expectancy. Clinical trials are listed at many cancer organizations and research hospitals, and many seek mesothelioma patients wanting mesothelioma treatment options for advanced malignant mesothelioma. In advanced malignant mesothelioma, participating in a clinical trial can be a lifesaving mesothelioma treatment option.

Mesothelioma treatment options for advanced malignant mesothelioma can also be found in clinical trials for anti-angiogenic therapy. Anti-angiogenic mesothelioma treatment options are biological therapies that revolve around blood vessel growth. A cancer needs its own blood supply to grow. Two primary chemicals contribute to growth, VEGF and FGF-2. Mesothelioma patients with advanced malignant mesothelioma have higher levels of VEGF compared to patients suffering from other cancers. The theory the clinical trials are hoping to prove is that blocking VEFG will stop the blood vessel growth that supports the cancer growth.

Mesothelioma treatment options for malignant mesothelioma also includes clinical trials in phototherapy, immunotherapy, gene therapy and other therapies. Medical specialists are scrambling to find the mesothelioma treatment options for malignant mesothelioma that can protect and cure the projected increase in mesothelioma patients of the future. Participating in clinical trials can extend mesothelioma life expectancy and provide hope for future generations.

0 Peritoneal Mesothelioma

Online pharmacy The peritoneal mesothelioma is a rare type of mesothelioma that accounts for only 10 to 20 % of all the mesothelioma cases diagnosed, around 3000 cases each year are diagnosed in the United States alone. This cancer develops in the mesothelium cell layer that is a membranous layer in the peritoneum.

Peritoneal mesothelioma also is caused by the exposure to asbestos like the all mesothelioma types. Being less common than the pleural type of mesothelioma, peritoneal mesotheliomas have a latency period of 20-30 years after asbestos exposure as compared to the period of 30 to 40 years in the cases of pleural mesothelioma. With a survival time ranging between 7 to 13.5 months it is present with a poor prognosis.

The associated symptoms include the abdominal swelling or pain with the changes in bowel habits for instance diarrhea or constipation. Others include lump formations under the abdominal skin and weight loss of unexplained origin. Nausea, vomiting, fatigue, night sweats or fever are also common.
In many cases there might be related cases of anemia.
As may be the case with many patients who present late with generalized symptoms of cachexia and bowel obstruction resulting in severe abdominal pain and malignant ascites that result in abdominal distention due to the progressive growth of the tumor on the peritoneum.

The diagnosis of mesothelioma cannot be made generally with the symptoms alone especially in case of peritoneal mesothelioma. The diagnosis in such cases begins with a thorough examination of medical history, physical history that is followed by imaging along with the tests for fluid and tissues of the mesothelioma patients.
Any bodily abnormality is detected by the use of more sophisticated and reliable techniques such as CT scans and X-rays. To confirm the cancer presence the use of tissue biopsy is well accounted in mesothelioma diagnosis. It is a minor surgical procedure that involves the removal of fluid or tissue from the peritoneum.
To check the presence of mesothelioma cells after biopsy, the fluid and tissues are tested in the laboratory. When it is ascertained that the patient is indeed suffering from the peritoneal mesothelioma the doctor and the mesothelioma patient together forms a treatment plan.

In the case of peritoneal mesothelioma the progression of the disease is much faster so the diagnosis is in most of the cases made in the later stages of the disease. Here the treatment becomes difficult as the cancer is in the later developmental stages. The doctors typically recommend the mesothelioma patients to get a treatment to combat the cancer and for pain relief.
Common treatment of peritoneal mesothelioma patients may generally include surgery, radiation and chemotherapy as with all types of mesothelioma treatments.

The mesothelioma patients may undergo a combination of treatments for peritoneal mesothelioma as there is no known cure for the disease. Participation in clinical trials to alleviate the pain and improvement of quality of life is another approach that mesothelioma patients may opt. These are for patients to test the newer and upcoming drugs for the disease.

Many mesothelioma patients try the hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). In this case higher concentrations of the chemotherapy solution are injected directly into the peritoneal cavity immediately after surgery so it is more effective in killing cancer cells in the abdomen than chemotherapy that is given through a venous route.
Many a times before surgery, mesothelioma patients may go through radiation therapy to shrink the tumors.
Most mesothelioma patients need to have cytoreduction surgery (CRS) that removes as much of the cancerous tissue in the abdomen as possible, thus reducing the "bulk" of the cancer which is also called "debulking" surgery.

Many peritoneal mesothelioma patients may elect to participate in palliative treatment that do not attempt to cure a patient it rather work to and improve the quality of life for them.

There are more differences between mesothelioma and lung mansion.

After pleural mesothelioma, the incoming most vulgar type is peritoneal mesothelioma, which develops in most new cases. There is whatever informs to inform that the designation of mesothelioma is improving. Patch pericardial mesothelioma and mesotheliomas of the tunica virginals are also realizable forms of the disease, they are real rare tumors and are belike solon popular.

Histological subtype

In improver to the activity where the conformation of the angioplasty, the finding of added factors in the designation of mesothelioma is a histologic subtype of constellation. This refers to the write of cells that assail tumors. There are digit histological subtypes of mesothelioma: epithelioid mesothelioma, which attacks the cells of epithelial, sarcomatoid mesothelioma, which attacks the sarcomata's cells, and bi-physic mesothelioma, which attacks both tumor epithelial cells and sarcomata's. 0 What Is Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma  is a rare form of cancer that mesothelium, a membrane covers and protects most internal organs of the body concerned. In most cases begin in the pleura (lining of the lungs) or peritoneum (lining of the abdominal cavity). Cancer is usually caused by asbestos. A history of asbestos in the workplace is reported in about 70 to 80 percent of all cases of the disease. Standard treatment options include surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

What is mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma is a benign (not cancerous) or malignant (cancer), the impact on the mesothelium, the membrane surrounding most internal organs. Most cases of mesothelioma begin in the pleura (membrane lining the lungs) or peritoneum (lining of the abdominal cavity).

Benin mesothelioma can also be a fibroid; cancer called mesothelioma and is also known as malignant mesothelioma. Mesothelioma can be named based on where they occur. For example, malignant pleural mesothelioma, a cancer that starts in the lining of the lungs.

Most people who develop malignant mesothelioma on jobs where inhalation of asbestos particles. Mesothelioma Benin does not seem to be related to asbestos.

The understanding of the mesothelium
the mesothelium is a membrane that covers and protects most of the internal organs of the body. It consists of two layers of cells: One layer immediately surrounds the organ other lots around it. The mesothelium produces a lubricating fluid that is released between these layers, thus (as the heart beats and the lungs expand and contract) moving bodies to slide easily against adjacent structures.

The mesothelium has different names depending on their location in the body. The peritoneum is the mesothelium tissue that covers most of the abdominal organs. The pleura is the membrane that surrounds the lungs and lines the chest wall, pericardium covers and protects the heart. The mesothelium tissue surrounding the male internal reproductive organs is called the tunica vaginitis testis and serosa uteri covers the internal reproductive organs in women.

0 How to Deal with a Mesothelioma Diagnosis

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer which starts in the mesothelium, which are the cells that line the internal organs in the body. If you have been diagnosed with this rare form of cancer, you may feel overwhelmed and scared, both of which are completely normal reactions. However, there are some things you can do help cope with the diagnosis and treatment.

Learn as much as possible about your condition. If possible, bring a friend or family member to your doctor's appointments. Not only can a loved one provide emotional support, he or she can also listen and recall information you may forget.

One of the first things done after an initial diagnosis is staging of the cancer. Staging is done to determine the extent of the cancer. Mesothelioma is categorized from Stage I to Stage IV. Stage I indicates the cancer has not spread beyond the cell lining. Stage IV means the cancer has already spread to other organs, such as the brain, the blood or the lymphatic system.

Before you meet with your doctor, write down questions in advance. This may help prevent you from forgetting something during your appointment. Don't be afraid to ask as many questions as you want. Be your own health advocate. Gaining knowledge about mesothelioma will help you decide with your physician on treatments and may also help you feel more in control.

Discuss all treatment options. The type of treatment recommended may depend on the stage of the cancer, your age and overall health. Most often mesothelioma is treated with a combination of chemotherapy medications. Radiation therapy and surgery may also be used, depending on the stage at which the cancer has been diagnosed.

Ask about possible side effects and what can be done to reduce them. For example, some chemotherapy medications may cause nausea. Medications to combat this side effect may help. Knowing what to expect may help reduce fears about treatments. It may also give you time to develop ways to cope.

Don't be afraid to accept help. Although everyone may react to treatment differently, you may have some fatigue, nausea and reduced ability to fight infection. Getting help with household chores, meals or childcare may help you cope with both the cancer and the treatments.

Costs for mesothelioma treatment can be high. Even with insurance, there may be co-payments for appointments and tests. You may also have lost wages. Call your state's disability office to determine if you qualify for disability insurance. Contact the National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society. They have information about various organizations which offer financial assistance for cancer patients.

Physical issues are not the only thing you may deal with after a diagnosis, especially considering the low likelihood of a positive mesothelioma prognosis. Emotional issues are also likely to develop. Feelings of depression, fear and helplessness are all normal and may occur. Participating in activities you enjoy, such as hobbies and spending time with friends may help. Joining a support group may also be a way to deal with emotional issues. Ask your doctor about support groups at your hospital or contact the American Cancer Society. They may be able to refer you to a group in your area.

Getting through treatment can be tough. However, having a strong support system, becoming educated about your disease and taking good care of yourself may help. Eat well, exercise with your doctor's approval and rest when you need to.

0 TYPES OF MESOTHELIOMA

Mesothelioma is a deadly form of cancer that affects the serous membranes surrounding the major organs of the body i.e. the lungs, heart and the abdominal organs, causing these vital organs to inflate with excessive fluid. This fluid further causes the improper functioning of the organs. The only known cause of this cancerous tumor is asbestos exposure. In this disease, malignant cells are built up in the protective linings (serous membranes) of several internal organs known as mesothelium. Different organs in the abdomen cavity can get affected by mesothelioma because of the presence of the protective linings surrounding them. The most common types of mesothelioma include:

* Pleural Mesothelioma,

* Peritoneal Mesothelioma, and

* Pericardial Mesothelioma.

Pleural Mesothelioma:

Pleural Mesothelioma is a tumor in which the lining of the lungs, or lung pleura, gets affected by malignant cells. The pleura is a soft protective tissue that surrounds the lungs in the chest cavity. It helps the lungs in breathing (respiration) by producing a serous fluid that lubricates the pleural surfaces to avoid the teasing of the lungs against the chest wall. The malignant cells, once entered the pleura, begin to spread and affect the surrounding organs and tissues. This leads to further complications resulting pain and severe symptoms.
Mesothelioma affecting pleura is of two categories:

Diffused or Malignant (Cancerous):

It is the serious form of pleural mesothelioma that affects the pleural lining of the lungs and its surrounding organs.
Localized and Benign (Non-cancerous):
It is the non-cancerous form of mesothelioma, which does not affect all parts of the body except the pleura. However, it constricts the lung causing shortness of breath, and in some severe cases, pneumothorax (lung failure).

Peritoneal Mesothelioma:

Peritoneal Mesothelioma is a tumor of the peritoneum membrane or the abdomen lining, affecting many organs in the abdominal cavity including stomach. This form of mesothelioma cancer is less common than the pleural form but is more aggressive, resulting severe symptoms and short life expectancy. Like many other cancers, peritoneal mesothelioma can also be either malignant or benign.

Pericardial Mesothelioma:

Pericardial or Pericardium Mesothelioma is the rarest form of cancer, counting less than 10% of mesothelioma cases. In this form of cancer, fluid gets accumulated in the sac that encloses the heart. The main cause of this disease is the inhalation of asbestos fibers.

Due to the rarity of this disease, doctors and researchers have not clearly understood how the asbestos fibers enter the heart lining or pericardium. The only logical explanation so far about this form of cancer is the possibility of the asbestos fibers, converted into tiny pieces, transported from the lung into the heart by means of blood circulation. Once the asbestos fibers enter the heart, they expand the tissues in the chest cavity and the pericardium with excessive liquid, disrupting the working of the heart and causing chest pains with breathing disorders.

Each year, approximately 2,000 new cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed. At some point of their lives, the patients of mesothelioma have been exposed to asbestos that later cause the hideous cancer of mesothelioma. If you, at some point of your life, have worked in an asbestos-rich environment or used any asbestos materials, you should contact a mesothelioma doctor for correct diagnosis and best treatment options available.

0 Pericardial Mesothelioma Symptoms and Misdiagnosis

Pericardial mesothelioma is a mesothelioma cancer that starts perilously close to the heart. Misdiagnosis is common, and treatment options are slim. The tumor can be benign, allowing for easier removal, or malignant - fast spreading and deadly. There are many cancers and diseases that affect the pericardial space around the heart, and pericardial mesothelioma is one of the rarest. However, it is the most common primary malignant pericardial tumor. It can also be secondary to malignant pleural mesothelioma.
Five to ten percent of all mesothelioma cases are pericardial mesothelioma, and the failure to diagnose pericardial mesothelioma early enough contributes to its low life expectancy from a few months to less than two years. The failure to detect the disease can also contribute to its statistical status. Early detection of pericardial mesothelioma provides a faint hope for prolonged survival, but only in the rarest and perhaps most medically advanced of mesothelioma cases is this possible.
Exposure to asbestos is the primary cause of pericardial mesothelioma and other mesotheliomas, such as the abdominal peritoneal mesothelioma, and the more common pleural mesothelioma of the lungs. The lungs, the abdomen and the heart are surrounded by a membrane. The cancer tumors of mesothelioma attack these membranes that are made out of mesothelium cells. If you can visualize your heart hanging within a sac, you can visual the membrane that is the subject of pericardial mesothelioma.
Pericardial mesothelioma, pleural mesothelioma and peritoneal mesothelioma all involve the fluid that is retained with the membrane. This fluid is necessary for proper functioning of the heart, lungs and other vital bodily systems. Excess fluid interferes, and even halts normal organ functions. The excess fluid is what is responsible for many of the mesothelioma symptoms of pain.
Chest pain, shortness of breath, coughing, and severe sweating at night have all been recorded as symptoms of malignant pericardial mesothelioma. These are more likely to be symptomatic of a non-cancer pericardial disease such as an inflammation of the pericardium - which is called pericardiocentesis and has identical symptoms. There have been cases where a misdiagnosis of lupus and even tuberculosis turned up as being malignant pericardial mesothelioma. Secondary cancers from lung cancer, breast cancer, lymphoma and leukemia can also attack the pericardium. Malignant mesothelioma in the pericardial region is often not discovered until surgery.
To further complicate matters, a CT scan can be interpreted as fluid, rather than the malignant tumor it is. This happened in 1979 with a 17 year old boy. Computed tomography has fortunately made significant advances since 1979, but CTs, MRIs and PETs must be done quickly. Poor detection and recognition still exist, and a second and third opinion should always be pursued. A patient should persist to find the source of pain and mesothelioma symptoms whenever a physician suggests an unknown etymology.
Pericardial mesothelioma treatment is in its infancy. Research continues in the areas of combination chemotherapies to reduce mass, intracavitary chemotherapy and irradiation, vaccines, molecular therapy and other mesothelioma treatment and preventative measures. As mesothelioma cases increase, so will effective mesothelioma treatments. It may be a long time before a cure for pericardial mesothelioma and other mesotheliomas are discovered. For now, advocacy work to ban asbestos use world wide is one of the best preventative medicines for the future that even a non-scientist can pursue.
Pericardial mesothelioma is often underdiagnosed in traditional tests and not found until heart surgery. The pain of pericardial mesothelioma and other malignant mesothelioma cancers can be quite severe. If a patient has pericardial mesothelioma with severe pain, the chances of survival and mesothelioma life expectancy is under two years. In 2004 a pericardiectomy was performed on a 19 year old boy and he died soon after surgery. A case study on a 54 year old man reported in the 2008 publication of the Annals of Thoracic Cardiovacular Surgery concluded that pain been shown to be reduced with resectioning the tumor and a pericardiectomy, which removes the pericardium, or a section of the pericardium.
Pericardiectomies are used more frequently to reduce constriction. However this barely touches the surface of the disease. The surgery is risky, but as knowledge of the cancer increases, so does the effectiveness of surgery. The earlier the pericardial mesothelioma tumor is found, the less risky the surgery. Pericardial mesothelioma does not respond to radiotherapy. Chemotherapy is used to reduce the cancerous mass.

0 Finally A Mesothelioma Blood Test?

Cancer is a health problem that has been heavily studied through the years as treatments have been sought to cure the disease which kills so many. One thing that has been discovered is that certain cancers can be discovered by identifying markers in blood. This may also now be the case with Mesothelioma.
Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that is often associated with exposure to asbestos. The cancer is rare, but has a very high mortality rate. This is due primarily to the fact that diagnosing the disease can be very difficult. Although it can take 40 years or more to reach the later stages of development, the cancer produces symptoms that are often associated with other diseases. Even at death, many patients are incorrectly diagnosed as having other diseases.
As with most cancers, discovering the problem as early as possible is the key to a successful resolution. For the longest time, this was nearly impossible with Mesothelioma and that led to huge mortality rates. Well, things may be changing for the better. The answer may be the Mesomark.
Medical researchers have found that blood contains some subtle indicators of health problems including cancer. These indicators are known as biomarkers. Researchers have discovered that patients with Mesothelioma have high levels of a biomarker known as SMRP. The test has been available in Europe and Australia for years, but has only been approved by the FDA in the United States since 2007. Independent studies have shown such strong results that it is all but a foregone conclusion that Mesomark will become the screening application for Mesothelioma diagnoses.
Cancer research is frustrating to patients and researchers alike because there never seems to be that one big breakthrough. In the case of Mesothelioma, there should be no mistaking the fact that the Mesomark is just that. Mesothelioma patients have typically carried the cancer for 30 or more years without knowing it. With Mesomark, the diagnosis can be made very early and the mortality rate should drop dramatically.

0 The Basics Of Mesothelioma Cancer

Are you in danger of Mesothelioma Cancer? The short answer is yes.

Asbestos is still widely used and has been used in everything from schools and work places, to appliance lining and insulation, and anywhere a fireproof barrier is needed. Most people do not understand that asbestos is still used in manufacturing many products. The air, drinking water, and even some consumer products still contain small amounts of asbestos. Asbestos fibers are even released into the air from natural deposits in the earth.
The industry feels justified in their use of asbestos because it is only dangerous after it breaks down and is released into the air. Wear and deterioration of asbestos products is the primary way to release fibers into the air.
The industry is quick to point out that people who have had a single, high-level exposure, incident, or are exposed for a short period to lower levels of asbestos, are not likely to contract Mesothelioma Cancer.
What most people do not understand is that they do not need to be in a dangerous environment. If they know someone who works in a dangerous environment, they may have been exposed through fibers that clung to clothing, was deposited in vehicles, and released into the environment through their clothing.
How to Be Tested
People at risk from exposure to asbestos from work or at home need to inform a doctor of their exposure history and symptoms. Asbestos fibers can be measured in urine, feces, mucus (fluid coming out of the body), or material rinsed out of the lungs. This may make it possible to test for asbestos long before serious symptoms occur - a vital factor in life expectancy.
A physical exam and chest x-ray may be recommended, but this is not an adequate. A chest x-ray cannot reveal fibers, just changes in the lungs. The x-ray must be sent to an experienced specialist who understands how to look for asbestos-related diseases.
The body must also be tested for fibers.
Mesothelioma cancer is rare, but the incidences of it are on the rise. Currently, it affects 2 000 Americans a year. It is caused by an inflammation in the sac-like lining around many of the body's internal organs. The most common type of this cancer is pleural mesothelioma. This cancer in the lung's linking causes up about 60% of all cases.
Peritoneum Mesothelioma is cancer in the lining of the abdomen and is found in 40% of all cases.
Pericardium Mesothelioma, is found in the lining of the heart and is the rarest form, accounting for a very small percentage of all cases.
Currently, exposure to asbestos fibers is the only cause of mesothelioma Mesothelioma, and other asbestos-related diseases. The problem in diagnosis is caused because asbestos remains dormant in the body from 10-50 years before scarring the tissue and causing cancer.
The optimistic news is that not all Mesothelioma is cancerous.
There are two forms: benign and malignant. Benign mesothelioma is non-cancerous and is removed and cured through surgery.
Malignant mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer. The life expectancy for patients ranges from 4-30. This quickly spreading cancer is difficult to treat. Early detection and treatment is lengthening the life expectancy of people diagnosed with this type of cancer.
This makes it vitally important for people exposed to asbestos to seek help immediately, even if there are no obvious symptoms. It may be too late to help them when symptoms appear. People who feel they may be at risk for Petritoneum, or Pericardium Mesothelioma should start medical and legal proceeding before becoming ill.

0 How common is mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma is an unusual sort of cancer in which malevolent cells are found in the mesothelium, a safeguarding sac that covers just about all the body's internal organs. The majority who develop mesothelioma have worked on roles where they breathed asbestos particles.
Asbestos is the name of a grouping of minerals that occur naturally as tons of tough, flexible fibers that is separated into thin threads and woven. Asbestos has been ordinarily employed in many business products, including cement, brake linings, roof shingles, flooring products, textiles, and insulation. If small asbestos particles float in the air, especially in the manufacturing process, they may be breathed or swallowed, and could cause heavy health concerns.
What is mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma ( cancer of the mesothelium ) is a sickness in which cells of the mesothelium become divergent and divide without control or order. They can attack and damage nearby tissues and organs. Cancer cells can also metastasize ( spread ) from their original site to other parts of the body. Most cases of mesothelioma begin in the pleura or peritoneum.
What is the mesothelium?
The mesothelium produces a lubricating liquid that is released between these layers, allowing moving organs ( like the beating heart and the expanding and contracting lungs ) to glide simply against opposite structures.
The mesothelium has different names, depending on its location in the body. The peritoneum is the mesothelial tissue that covers the bulk of the organs in the abdominal hole. The pericardium covers and protects the heart. The mesothelial tissue surrounding the male internal reproductive organs is named the tunica vaginalis testis.
How common is mesothelioma?
Although reported incidence rates have risen in the past twenty years, mesothelioma is still a comparatively rare cancer. About two thousand new cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed in the States each year.
What are the danger factors for mesothelioma?
Working with asbestos is the major risk factor for mesothelioma. A record of asbestos exposure at work is reported in about 70 p.c to 80 p.c of all cases. However, mesothelioma has been reported in some folks without any known exposure to asbestos.

0 Medical view of mesothelioma

More than 8 million people have been exposed to asbestos and are at risk of succumbing to mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is caused when the mesothelium cells start to divide rapidly leading to cancer. The only known cause of mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos  fibers. The disease has a very long latency period, sometimes even around 60 years. The disease has no known cure and death becomes inevitable.

It is also very hard to correctly diagnose the disease in the early stages, as the symptoms of the disease are similar to other non-malignant diseases like pneumonia. The asbestos fiber, which is light and invisible, is released during mining and manufacture of asbestos. It is inhaled easily through nose and mouth and affects the mesothelium lining of the body part that it comes into contact with. This sets off the mesothelium cells rapid division operation, resulting in tumors. The mesothelium lining can be found in the organs like lungs, abdomen and heart.

Depending on this, mesothelioma can be classified into three categories:
§ Pleural mesothelioma, which affects the lungs,
§ Peritoneal mesothelioma, which affects the abdomen, and
§ Pericardial mesothelioma, which affects the heart.

Due to the long latency period of the disease, people who have worked in asbestos-related factories in their youth may contract the disease in their old age during or after retirement. Many of them may have shifted many jobs by this time and they do not relate their condition to asbestos exposure. Thus, they do not consider mesothelioma as an occupational disease. They face huge sorrow at having to part with their loved ones in such a tragic way.

Life of Jack Daws

Jack Daws was working as a tutor in the rural regions of Pennsylvania. He had a beautiful wife and a handsome son. He had what is called as a perfect family! They were always supportive and co-operative. They had enduring love and constant hope on each other.

Jack Daws loved his job as he loved kids of all ages and all sizes. He was the coach of the local soccer team during weekends. When Jack was around 55 years, he was planning on getting a retirement from the school where he tutored in another year or two.

At this crucial point of time, Jack slowly started realizing something was wrong with his health. He felt a constant pain in his chest and severe shortness of breath. He, his family and his doctor dismissed all these symptoms as a cause of aging, initially. But, slowly, his condition started to worsen. He felt as if a heavy weight has been placed on his chest. Also, he started losing weight rapidly. By now, the doctor also started sensing that something was wrong with Jack. The doctor conducted a whole lot of tests on Jack. One of the tests that were conducted was to study the fluids & cells in his lungs. After this test, the doctor felt that it appeared cancerous. Further tests followed to make the right diagnosis. It was, finally, confirmed. Jack suffered from 'Pleural Mesothelioma',
I.e. mesothelioma affecting the lungs. Doctors felt that Jack had only another year or two of life on earth. Jack started analyzing how he contracted mesothelioma. He had never worked in any asbestos-related industries. Slowly, it dawned on Jack. Lots of construction and painting work used to be done on in his school.

Due to his long career at the school, he was constantly exposed to asbestos dust, which was used during the painting work. The company, which did the job for the school, did not take any safeguards to protect, anyone. Jack was advised to initiate proceedings against the company. The company did not disclose the dangers of asbestos and behaved in a selfish profit-oriented manner.

When Jack initiated proceeding against the company, it was found that lots of people have already sued the company for the same reason and have won their cases. Thus, the Company did not want to go into lengthy and expensive legal proceedings. They agreed to go in for an out-of-court settlement. After negotiations, the company paid Jack around a million dollars for the health damages he suffered and around two million dollars for his family-dependents. Jack underwent treatment at a cancer center. The cancer was spread all around his body and surgery was ruled out for him. Jack underwent chemotherapy and lived a life of suffering for the next two years. After that he succumbed to the disease. However, his soul will rest in peace as he has provided a safe and comfortable settlement for his loving family members.

0 What You Need To Learn About Mesothelioma

There are a lot of maybes that get thrown about when talking about cancers of the various types. But the maybes I want to talk about are those that come with one of the most silent, and devastatingly tragic forms of cancer: mesothelioma.
Maybes:
Maybe you've been diagnosed. Maybe a close relative or beloved friend. Maybe you are noticing the symptoms, and have yet to brave going to the doctor to see what it's all about. Regardless of the maybes, or mights, mesothelioma is tragic, scary, and a heavy load to bear, whether you're afraid you have it, or have heard of someone who has had it.
What is Mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma is a cancer that attacks the outer sac of the internal organs such as the lungs. One of the more prevalent forms of mesothelioma is the mesothelioma cancer that occurs in the tissue in your abdomen (peritoneum). This form is called peritoneal mesothelioma and accounts for 10 percent to 20 percent of all mesotheliomas.
Mesothelioma is very painful, and very hard to treat. It is also incurable, but doesn't develop until very late after exposure to the carcinogen that causes it. I'll get into that a little later on this article.
Is Mesothelioma contagious?
Fortunately for those who do not contract mesothelioma from exposure to the cancer causing agent, the disease is not contagious, and cannot be caught from anyone who has it. Although, if you have worked with someone who has gotten this rare cancer, it might be wise to get a doctor to look at you, and see if you have any early stages of this disease.
What causes Mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma is believed to be caused by the mineral asbestos. Asbestos is found in many building supplies, and most workers who handle this deadly cancer causing material without protective gear suffer from the deadly cancer.
Asbestos is used in insulation such as amosite insulation board, and other building materials. Since it has been commercially mined and sold in the late 19th century, casualties of this deadly carcinogen have climbed to strike almost 3000 people every year.
What are the symptoms of Mesothelioma?
Most symptoms of mesothelioma start with a tightening of the chest, and an inability to take full, deep breaths. Once these symptoms begin to show, however, it is too late for any treatment to cure the disease.
Are there treatments for mesothelioma?
There are only treatments to prolong a person's life, or ease the pain of this disease. Treatment for mesothelioma also depends on the location of the cancer, the stage of the disease, and the patient's age and general health.
Most cases of diagnosed victims of asbestos poisoning have lived only 1 - 2 years after the cancer is found in their body. Standard treatment options for this cancer can include surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy.
There is really nothing to be said when someone contracts mesothelioma cancer. The maybes begin to pile on top of each other, and fear, doubt, and worry seem to be the only constant thing in many peoples' minds. Consult your doctor if you or a loved one have been exposed to asbestos products, or building materials.

0 All about Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma  is a form of cancer that is normally caused by asbestos exposure. Mesothelioma is cancer that occurs in the mesothelium.

Mesothelioma:
Mesothelioma is a type of cancer affecting the cells of mesothelial lining in the chest and abdomen. Mesothelioma cancer can develop in the tissues covering the lungs or the abdomen. Mesothelioma has also been found in the stomach and other abdominal organs but it is much rarer in those areas than are both pleural mesothelioma and peritoneal mesothelioma. Mesothelioma can also occur in the ovaries and scrotum. Mesothelioma invades the chest wall or the esophagus during the second stage.Mesothelioma also takes a long time to develop (typically 15-40 years), so patients today could have been exposed prior to the 1980s when asbestos was not highly regulated. Mesothelioma is not caused by smoking, as lung cancer so often is.

Symptoms:
Symptoms One of the most common symptoms of mesothelioma is an accumulation of fluid between the lining of the lung and the chest cavity. Symptoms include: abdominal painascites, or an abnormal buildup of fluid in the abdomen a mass in the abdomen problems with bowel function weight loss. Symptoms such as trouble swallowing, pain, or swelling of the neck and face can be indications that the cancer has spread beyond the mesotheliom to other parts of the body. Symptoms of pleural mesothelioma include persistent pain in the chest and severe difficulty breathing caused by pleural effusion, or an accumulation of fluid in the pleural lining Cough, weight loss, and fever are also common symptoms. Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma include weight loss and abdominal pain and swelling due to a buildup of fluid in the abdomen. Symptoms of mesothelioma may not appear until 20 to 50 years after exposure to asbestos.

Diagnosis:
The key to long-term survival from treatment of mesothelioma is early diagnosis, which enables the greatest potential for success from standard therapies. Diagnosis begins with a review of the patient's medical history, including any history of asbestos exposure. Diagnosis of Mesothelioma is based on a pathological exam, more commonly referred to as a biopsy.Since this disease can be hard to diagnosis and costly to treat, it may require the consultation of an experienced attorney. When conclusive diagnosis cannot be made from fluid samples, diagnosis is often made through a surgical procedure called a throrascopy. The average age at diagnosis of mesothelioma is between 50 and 70 years old, with men being affected three to five times more often than women. The diagnosis may be suspected with chest X-ray and CT scan, and is confirmed with a biopsy (tissue sample) and microscopic examination. The median survival time is 17 months, with ten percent of patients living for three years after diagnosis.

Conclusion:
Mesothelioma is a deadly cancer which is fairly rare although in the last few decades the number of people who have died from it have dramatically increased. Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer, but the deadliest one of all. Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer and only affects between 2,000 and 3,000 people in the United States per year. Mesothelioma is less common in African Americans than in white Americans. Mesothelioma is rare in people under age 55. National Cancer Institute stats show that 3000 new diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma is reported each year. Mesothelioma is not always fatal and that is the hope to hold on to.
